CALL FOR PAPERS
Industrialization for Inclusive Development in Tanzania
Tanzania’s Second Five Year Development Plan (FYDP II) focuses on Nurturing Industrialization for Economic Transformation and Human Development. FYDP II aims to address development challenges in Tanzania not limited to low productivity, ineffective use of resources, low quality of social services and inadequate financial resources. In industrializing an economy, it’s important to thoroughly understand the matter, their measurement, expected results of intervention to yield positive outcomes. Yet what is understood to promote industrialization is still insufficient and yielding mixed results, thus calling for an in-depth discussion.
The Economic Society of Tanzania, a forum for discussing emerging ideas and empirical results of economic research with policy makers, regulators and opinion makers, aims to raise public awareness, and stimulate public interest and debate on the industrialization process and other economic issues relevant to the process. EST invites papers for its 2018 annual congress to be held in early December 2018 with the theme “Industrialization for Inclusive Development in Tanzania”.
Relevant issues to be discussed include availability of raw materials, use of technology, skills of the labour force and financing. Authors should look on issues not limited to source, access, cost and quality, the review of gaps and provide recommendations to inform industrialization. Thematic areas A) Industrial Policy and Policy Environment B) Resource based industries (sectoral linkages) C.) Industrialization and job creation D) Financing Industrialization and E) Manufacturing for export (Trade)
