It is with sadness we let you of the passing of Prof Benno Ndulu our President and the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Economic Society of Tanzania (1950-2021)
Prof Benno Ndulu was instrumental in providing leadership to Economic Society of Tanzania especially during the period of its revival. At his capacity as the chairman of the society, Prof Ndulu made substantial contribution to Tanzania’s development process in three major ways: –
(a) He played a catalytic role in fostering dialogue in economic issues at both national and international levels.
(b) He provided a remarkable contribution in policy development processes of Tanzania through the leadership role he played research and analysis as well as unique perspectives he always had on diverse matters of interest to Tanzania development process.
(c) He played a pivotal role in strengthening research capacity of many scholars and researchers in Tanzania.
He oversaw the strategic direction of the Society. Brought to Tanzania renowned economists through his extensive global network including speakers from Vietnam and Helsinki in collaboration with UNU-WIDER and IGC for the Annual Congress on Industrialisation.
He initiated dialogue on Tanzania’s Digital Readiness with the World Bank. And in November he went full circle to talk of the Opportunities in the transportation and logistics sector in the Sneakers and Heels Exposition targeting mid -careers women in the economy.
We’ve lost our Leader and our Advisor. Man of few yet strategic words. We’ve been shaken.

The funeral mass will take place on Thursday 25th February 2021 at St. Peters Catholic Church from 1.00 pm followed by his internment at the Kinondoni cemetery at 4.00pm.
